Apple announced at its World Wide Developers’ Conference (WWDC) 2016 that it is revamping its Maps and Music apps. The attempt is to make them more useful and less complicated.
Apple has opened its often controversy-hit Maps app to developers. Senior vice president at Apple Eddy Cue said that this will enable the user to find a restaurant, book a reservation, request a car from Uber or Lyft and pay for it using Apple Pay, all without leaving the Maps app.
In case of Apple Music the company’s redesign is aimed at simplicity and making it easier to find music stored on the device as opposed to streamed from the Internet.
Apple is also making it possible to subscribe to various publications like The Wall Street Journal and read the stories inside the News app. News alerts from your favorite outlets will also pop up on your device’s lock screen.
Apple also announced that its virtual assistant, Siri, will be coming to desktop and laptop computers. The digital assistant, first introduced on Apple’s iPhones in 2011, will now be available in Apple’s operating system for Macs.
Apple also gave a demonstration of Siri on the Mac computer, which for the first time will be able to search for photos, documents, music and other files via voice commands. Siri will also work similarly with Apple TV.
Apple has also opened up its popular Siri digital assistant to outside developers, a move which means iPhone users soon could be able to hail rides with Uber, publish photos on Shutterfly or make a call on Skype with voice commands.
Apple also unveiled new updates of its operating software for Watch, iPhone and iPads.
