I love my fetch box best thing I ever got. Coming out of home I didn't want to splurge on Pay TV and yet still get a Good internet deal. With fetch and Optus' Entertainment bundle I got just that a affordable pay TV alternative that works fine even with Australia's crappy internet. Movies when I want, works perfectly with all my External HDD's and I can set it up to Drag and Drop stuff from my Laptop or Tablet directly to the HDD on the STB. It's a Breeze well worth even purchasing it Harvey Norman now sell Fetch by its self.

No Fox8 and no Comedy Channel is a fail, at least for me…

I don't think Fetch has a book mark facility

BOHW, can you please explain the "power-over-ethernet setup etc…."
Unless its copyrighted or trademarked or patented.

We use Foxtel mainly because of the sports access. If we cancel Foxtel and change to Fetch will we lose the fox sports, or will we have to keep the fox as well

  7. Prof. Judge Crooks DVM says:

Ditch Foxtel. Stop sending money to Murdoch.

He's referring to 'powerline networking' – google it if you want to know more 🙂

Coming from a TiVo, here are the shortfalls:

Fast forwarding stops immediately on the spot once you hit play wheras TiVo goes back a couple of seconds assuming you will overrun the program post commercials.

Live TV doesn't record automatically. If you watch something recorded on the TiVo, the two tuners are still keeping 30 minutes of live tv recorded in case you stop watching the recording and need to rewind live tv.

Can't transfer TV recordings to computer.

The Fetch TV app is only compatible with a few mobile devices. My HTC One is not one of them. You can't schedule recordings via a desktop browser like the TiVo.

Can't set recordings around your favourite actor or sports team.

There is back button on the TiVo that goes back 5 seconds during playback that allows you to recapture a moment or event immediately again.

As someone who previously had Foxtel and its IQ2 box, I became accustomed to a fully featured DVR and great features. I then got offered Fetch TV by Optus (considering we were paying $115 per month anyway before Fetch, it was a no brainer). Honestly, Fetch is pretty impressive, it is a great little box with tonnes of space, a nice interface which is snappy and well-designed.

It has support for DLNA content streaming. So I use my Plex media server on my PC at home and then connect to it via Fetch and then stream my local movies which is a breeze. I have a lot of movies, so there are issues with not being able to list them all without timeouts, so I have to browse movies ordered by recently added and alphabetically.

I love the inclusion of apps like SBS and ABC iView, Youtube, etc.

But most of all my favourite inclusion is having Moshcam. Essentially Moshcam is an online site like Youtube that records local concerts at Australian venues (international and local acts) and then puts them up online for free. I can watch live concerts via my Fetch box without needing to use a computer.

They seem to be continually improving the service with a whole bunch of new channels like BBC coming next month. And there are rumours of integration with one or more existing VOD services like Netflix, Presto and Stan. However, nothing has been announced just yet.

I think the lack of wifi is a warranted missing feature. The general nature of a box like Fetch which utilises an internet connection for most of its content relies on a decent connection and bandwidth. Generally wifi comes with all kinds of bandwidth limitations, dropped packets and other performance issues which would degrade the service pretty badly. I use an power-over-ethernet setup to connect my box via an ethernet to my router.

Bring back TiVo. Or at least the remote.
