You may well recall that I reviewed the 8TB OWC ThunderBlade, a superfast NVMe based Thunderbolt 3 hard drive that was capable of some mind-blowing speeds.
Well, now they have a new 16TB version. That is double the capacity of the previous highest available ThundrBlade.
KEY FEATURES
- Dual Thunderbolt 3 Ports – Daisy chain up to six Thunderbolt 3 devices
- Rugged portability in a sleek design
- Includes a custom-fit ballistic hard-shell case
- Thunderbolt 3 Cable Included
- 3 Year OWC Limited Warranty
The ThunderBlade is capable of delivering transfer speeds up to 2800MB/s. And with SoftRAID, two ThunderBlades can reach speeds of up to 3800MB/s.
The 16TB ThunderBlade is made up of four 4TB OWC Aura P12 SSDs.
The OWC ThunderBlade 16.0TB External Solid-State Drive retails for $4,779 USD. That is some serious money, but if you need ultra-fast high capacity storage then it looks like a great option.

I already had some single ssds crashing during edit. I am not sure I would work on multiple of them on raid 0. Super fast but super dangerous..
exactly
Well, there are many way to skin a cat. I would transfer all my file to both this device and and my raid 5 storage array and then work of that device for speed. I think it would be more cost effective to do so.
Touch wood, I have never had any of the modern day SSD drives fail. You can configure this up in any type of Raid configuration you like.
