Olympus this week announced its new STF-8 Macro Flash, the world’s first macro flash that boasts durable weatherproofing.
Designed for macro photographers who want to capture the great outdoors on a tiny scale, the STF-8 twin flash is designed to be dustproof, splashproof, and freezeproof down to 14°F (-10°C) — a perfect companion for the new weatherproof Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II.
Compatible lenses in the Olympus system include the M.ZUIKO 30mm f/3.5 Macro, 60mm f/2.8 Macro, and 12-40mm f/2.8.
Specs and features include a guide number of 8.5 when firing both heads, a guide number of 6 when firing one head, full TTL auto sync, manual power control down to 1/128, adjustable power ratios between the heads, retractable diffusers, and removable heads.
The Olympus Macro Flash STF-8 will be available starting in January 2017 with a price tag of $480.

I haven’t been able to find fitment explanations why the STF-8 won’t fit the older 50mm f2. The STF-8 fits the 46mm and the 62mm filter size of the compatible lenses but not the 52mm filter threads on the older 50mm. Also, the older macro flashes don’t seem to be compatible with the 12-40mm (62mm filter size) which is compatible with the new macro flash.
