In case you missed it, Fitbit bought out Pebble last week and quickly confirmed it would stop supporting the former smartwatch maker’s past devices.
Those running around panicked about bricked wearables need not worry just yet, however, with Fitbit now confirming Pebble devices will continue to be supported throughout 2017, huzzah.
Although your warranty has been erased and many of you didn’t even receive the Pebble Time 2 you backed, if you have got a Pebble watch, you’ll still be able to access the Pebble appstore and all elements of the Pebble ecosystem for another year at least.
“Our mission is to support the Pebble developer community we’ve loved and nurtured, working to ensure Pebble watches continue to operate,” Pebble developer, Jon Barlow assured fans in an official blog post.
He added: “Fitbit is going out of its way to keep Pebble software and services running through 2017.
“To be clear, no one on this freshly-formed team seeks to brick Pebble watches in active service.”
While 2017 has been green lit for continued support, your Pebble watch’s days are still definitely numbered.
Open in its intentions with the takeover, Fitbit has revealed it bought out Pebble in order to strip it of its patents and technologies and grow its own smartwatch efforts accordingly.
