Xiaomi, after recently having launched various internet-connected devices, including air purifiers, wearables, rice cookers, and kettles has now launched folding electric bicycle, under the Xiaomi’s QiCycle brand.
The Mi QiCycle Electric Folding Bike has good features given what it is priced at. For 2,999 yuan (around Rs 30,000) riders get a bike that can assist the rider’s pedalling for 45 kilometers on a single charge.
It comes with a 250W, 36V motor and packs 20 Panasonic lithium-ion batteries, the same type you’d find in a Tesla supercar.
It comes with a companion app that logs distance, speed, GPS location, calories burned etc. The QiCycle also has Shimano three-speed gears, folds down into a (relatively) compact package that weighs 14.5 kilograms, and has front and rear lights built into its frame.
The company earlier this year launched the QiCycle R1 (a non-folding) electric bike with connected functionality. The bike was developed by a Xiaomi-backed startup called iRiding costed around Rs 2 lakhs. The new cycle is Electric Folding Bike is also built by iRiding.
Xiaomi is marketing it as the perfect bike for navigating China’s crowded cities, where there are already more electric bikes than cars on the road. The new QiCycle certainly seems like a decent product at the price, although it is missing (at least) 4GB of RAM, which is one of the important components for modern bikes.
