The Google Home Mini looks set for a pretty major overhaul
However, it’s got some pretty major changes in the works. Not only is the Google Home Mini set to rebrand as the Nest Mini, it’s set to receive a sizeable spec upgrade, a source suggests.
A recent report from 9to5Google reveals that the Next Mini is set to debut with a host of handy features and specs, which many people complained were missing from 2017’s Google Home Mini. Citing a “reliable source,” the site reveals that the hardware will finally come equipped with lots of the features we would have liked to see the first time round.
Most pressingly, the Nest Mini will reportedly debut with a 3.5mm headphone jack – something we lamented the Google Home Mini was missing two years ago. As well as the all-important jack, the smart speaker will reportedly boast better sound quality – particularly its bass – as well as having a higher maximum volume. Again, we found ourselves hankering after a more powerful sound when we reviewed its predecessor, so we’re glad to see Google making this change.
It has also been suggested that the Nest Mini will come with a proximity sensor like its sibling devices, the Nest Guard, Nest Protect and Nest Hub Max. The sensors – if they are implemented – will reportedly act to reveal the volume the device is playing at when approached.
Another rumour is that the Nest Mini will come with a wall mount built into the device, although how this will be incorporated into the speaker’s design has not yet been disclosed. A similarly vague colour shakeup has also been rumoured – although we don’t know yet just what the Nest Mini’s hues will end up looking like.
We’ll update this page as and when we get more information about the Nest Mini in all its resplendence, so be sure to check back in.
