What I found lackimg on the 2016s was alternate mode DP 1.3/1.4 on one or two of the USB-Cs. And instead using some proprietary standard (I assume). Polaris, to my knowledge, is supposed to handle that. Now also HDMI 2.1 is being introduced with speeds higher than TB3 (HDMI port needed).

For upcoming models upgrades to speed things up and make batteries last longer will also likely be new GPUs and new memory for those. Not only CPUs.
Kaby Lake also supports Optane memory. And if an Optane cashe for the SSD is made available, this would likewise probably speed things up

It’s amazing how many people still think there are major performance improvements to be had between intel’s latest processor designs. It’s already been decisively shown that, clock for clock, Kaby lake performs within margin of error to Skylake. 32 Gig of ram may be a nice option for those that run heavy workloads or multiple VMs, but for the masses it’s effectively overkill.

As for more and varied ports. . . great idea in theory, but what are they gonna kick off the logic board to make room for them? There’s a huge upgradability factor in Thunderbolt 3 [external drives, eGPUs –AHEM APPLE–] etc that just helps keep them relevant for SO MUCH LONGER!

Moving lower power functionality to a secondary ARM processor WOULD be kind of amazing though. Granted, it doesn’t do much for me PERSONALLY, but that’s because I remember the days of the 50 minute laptop battery [and that was under LIGHT usage!]
