As we expected, the iPhone 7 rumor mill is continuing to pick up the pace, as we draw closer and closer to its almost inevitable fall, 2016 launch.
Just for the record, we already knew that the physical dimensions of the forthcoming device would differ just a bit from those of the current generation iPhone 6s. However, if a new slate of leaked schematics is to be believed, we’re perhaps getting a first look at the actual extent to which they will vary.
According to the most recent renderings, Apple’s forthcoming iPhone will apparently clock in at 7.15 mm thickness — which, in comparison to the iPhone 6s, is a modest (perhaps even negligible) .05 mm increase. As we recently reported, it’s a near certainty that Apple will be ditching the standard 3.5mm audio jack on the forthcoming flagship — and these new schematics appear to confirm that will be the case, indeed.
And so, one is perhaps left to wonder ‘why’ Apple wasn’t able to reduce the thickness of the forthcoming device, as was previously reported. Well, there are actually a couple of plausible theories behind that.
One potential reason is that the Cupertino-company (finally!) heard its customer’s pleas, and ultimately decided to equip the iPhone 7 with a juicier battery pack than its predecessor. Or, on the other hand, it’s also quite possible that the extra thickness — which really is negligible, in the whole scheme of things — entails that the device will be waterproofed and/or dust-proofed, which was also reported not too long ago.
OR (better yet) perhaps the Cupertino-company will be including BOTH a bigger battery AND an extra layer of waterproof/dust-proof coating? Could you imagine that? We certainly could. And it should be noted that given the lack of the industry standard 3.5mm headphone jack, Apple’s forthcoming flagship now features one less hardware auxiliary input meaning, in other words, one less avenue by which liquid could potentially seep into and damage the device.
In any event, aside from the aforementioned details, the only apparent differences between the iPhone 6s and it’s soon-to-be successor, is that the iPhone 7 appears to be just a tad bit more compact, although it will still feature the same 4.7-inch display at 750 x 1,334 resolution. Also, as has been reported in the past, the forthcoming iPhone’s antenna lines appear to have been redesigned for a sleeker, subtler aesthetic.
Either way, we’re certain to be seeing the iPhone 7 unveiled (at an unknown time) later on this fall. Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are expected to launch featuring Apple’s next-generation A10 SoC, and for the 7 Plus, we could be seeing both 3GB of RAM, in addition to that long-rumored dual-lens camera module capable of optical image zoom and stabilization around back.
