CEO Richard Yu has confirmed Huawei is ready to announce the Huawei Watch 2 by the end of February 2017.
Yu took to Chinese social networking site Weibo to share the news that the Huawei Watch 2 will be officially announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of February.
He shared a marketing image of the device, but it doesn’t give us a clear look at the second generation smartwatch.
It does suggest there will be a bigger focus on fitness this time round though, and gives us the inspirational tagline of “made for free spirits” – another potential nod towards sportier features.
Sporty focus
Previous rumors for the Huawei Watch 2 have said it will have 1.4-inch touchscreen and measure 42mm in diameter.
There will also likely be two versions: one will come with LTE support (like the new LG Watch Sport) so you can use it within a phone, and we assume that one will be more expensive.
It’s also thought to have a selection of rubber and metal straps to help you switch from sporty features to a more formal look.
One leak suggests the watch will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage inside, and it’s also rumored to have a 300mAh battery.
The original Huawei Watch ran Android Wear software, and considering Google just launched Android Wear 2.0 with the LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style, we can likely expect the Watch 2 to feature it too.
Yu also confirmed the company will be announcing new portable chargers but the most exciting element is the heavily rumored the Huawei P10 flagship phone, which may be ready to announce at the show too.

I have high hopes for the 2nd gen Huawei watch. Not a fan of either LG watch. I hope they aren’t going to use the Snapdragon 400.

Huawei had such a homerun with their first watch. Were all the reviews online touting it as THE classiest and most attractive smartwatch available not enough? Why turn it sporty? :/ I really hope they’re just referring to software features more than the look of it, or maybe one variant. There’s so many sporty wearables out there.
